PETROFORMS
Here are a few examples of petroforms in Montana.
Most of these rock forms have commonly accepted explanations.
These explanations, however, are often applied to structures that don't
fit the accepted picture. For example, the photo on the right just below
is one of ten large cairns that are in a row. (stretching out behind
the person) Rows of piles like these are often lumped into the title
of 'drive lines' for buffalo, yet these consist of only one line of
stones, they span about 70 yards on the side of a hill and they don't
lead to a cliff or steep bank, these features are not typical of 'drive
lines.' So what are they? Incidentally lie in a straight line that runs
about 6 degrees East of magnetic North.

Below are two drawings of stone circles that were mapped
out with a plotting tool that shows each stone where it actually lies
in the ground.
