People are Using Their Brains for a healthy change!

Is the stress of daily life getting to you? Do you want to feel calmer and more in control? Men and women are using their mind power to stay calm and stress free. Current research is showing how the mind-body connection can be used as a powerful healing tool. A study from the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine revealed that over 36% of adults are using some form of alternative, mind-body therapy. When prayer, affirmation, and positive suggestion are included, the numbers rise to 60%.

“Mind-body therapies such as hypnosis, EMDR, and yoga will continue to grow in popularity because they empower people to transform themselves,” says Patrick Marsolek, author of Transform Yourself: a self-hypnosis manual. “People are taking back their ability to change themselves from within. An affirmative, calming thought held in the mind has a physical effect on the body. Studies are showing how simple self-hypnosis techniques ease pain of surgery, reduce time of proceedures and quicken recovery time. People are combining mind-body techniques with traditional healing modalities and taking charge of their own healing and transformation.”

Marsolek contends that everyone can learn simple, easy to use techinques to begin changing their lives. Self-hypnosis is a natural, unused skill that all people have. Permanant changes can be experienced using positive affirmations and suggestions .

Would you like to relax now?

1

Make yourself comfortable.

Check in with how you're sitting as you read this, and relax.

Does your body need some attention?

2

Take a moment and describe to yourself what you are experiencing.

Describe these:

Physical sensations

State of mind

Emotions

Other strong senses

Just use simple, descriptive words, for example:

"I feel a pressure in my back and feel kind of frazzled..."

3

Say to yourself, "I am experiencing... (your words) and I love myself!"

As you say these words, imagine you are speaking them right into the center of your feelings.

Doing this, you are validating yourself as you are!

4

Now think of something you enjoy, something that makes you happy.

For example, I enjoy walking down the beach.

Now imagine what you enjoy doing.

Use all your senses.

Now this is the most important part: Slow it down in your mind and in your body. Imagine doing whatever you're doing slower and slower, and enjoy each aspect of it in your awareness. You may even let go into a particularly enjoyable sensation or memory.

5

As you continue imagining, remind yourself, "I love myself. I'm OK!"

This is a gift you give yourself!

Would you like to relax more now?

Follow these simple steps:

1 Sit upright so you can breathe comfortably.
2 Center your awareness on your breath.
3 Feel the sensation of the breath flowing in and out of your body. Feel the belly and chest rising and falling. Enjoy a few deeper breaths.
4 Imagine your breath going deeper down into your belly with each in-breath.
5 Allow your breath to find its own, comfortable rhythm, not too fast or too slow.
6 Now, as you relax, bring to mind a safe, comfortable place. This may be a memory, a place that makes you happy, or even an imaginary place. Imagine and enjoy each of your senses in this place. What sounds do you hear? Smells? What sensations do you feel on your skin? What images do you see? How does this place make you feel?
7 Enjoy your feelings for as long as you like! This is a gift you give yourself.
8 When you're ready to continue with your day, go for it! Enjoy feeling relaxed, energized and alert.
